It’s becoming a “remember when…” story — the Millbrook High School football team dropping its first game of the season, its defense being shredded for 40 points.
But the memories of that game are growing more vague each week as the Blazers continue to distance themselves from it with dominating victories.
Delvin Wood ran for 139 yards and two touchdowns and caught a 22-yard touchdown pass to lead Millbrook in a 34-0 win over host Tri-Valley on Saturday.
Christian Williams rushed for 137 yards and two scores for the Blazers (4-1). Wood’s 7-yard touchdown run put Millbrook on the board 2:38 into the game.
Not only have they won four straight, but Millbrook has blown out its opponents. The starting defense, coach Sean Keenan said, has allowed only 13 points total in those four contests. Overall, they have outscored their last four opponents 192-41.
Tim Outwater has anchored the defensive line, using his strength at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds along with “sound technique” to be a tenacious pass-rusher, Keenan said.
Outwater had two sacks, Sam Storey had six tackles and 1 ½ sacks and Brendan Riebe had 1 ½ sacks. Wood, at free safety, had five tackles and an interception.
“We made a lot of mistakes in that first game against Liberty,” Keenan said, referring to the 40-34 loss. “They’re a very good team, so it was nothing to hold our heads about, but we’ve gotten much better. Kids are running to the ball more and tackling better.”
Millbrook hosts Chester at 7 p.m. Friday.
